About The Cause

Benefits The Philadelphia Veterans Multi-Service & Education Center
In today's world, charities earn their right to exist and their right to a continued existence based solely on the studied perception of the societal needs they proclaim to fulfill. The Philadelphia Veterans Multi-Service & Education Center, Inc. (The Center) can offer the following record. In the period beginning February 3, 1981 and ending June 30, 1999, there have been 43,386 client contacts including 23,481 new clients. These clients are veterans, a group that abhors being the recipient of charity, something their pride tells them they should not welcome nor accept, but the need is blatant and continuing.

"The Center", in an effort to stay abreast of the growing local needs of veterans (mirroring national studies cited on the front page of the Wall Street Journal 7/21/98) has, for the first time in the organization's history, purchased a building. Years of rental and temporary location have given way to a place "The Center" can call home. A place those needy veterans can access. Located at 4th and Florist Streets in Center City Philadelphia, the five-floor facility will allow our services to increase by fifty percent. This new facility in addition to providing increased services in the area of counseling, training, job placement, and homeless services, provides a Veteran's Administration Mental Health Group (on site) for the care, treatment and referrals in the medical, psychological and social areas and our all new day long drop-in center (The Perimeter).

Yours in Veteran Services,

Edward J. Lowry, Chief Executive Officer
